Changelog

What's new in Neko Launcher

Every launcher release, newest first. The launcher updates itself, so you get these the next time you open it.

  1. v2.3.3

    Latest
    • The online player count at the top of the window stays on one line.
  2. v2.3.2

    • Servers with their own skin system can now turn HD skins off for their instance (dashboard › Appearance). In that instance only the server's skins show, and the in-game menu says HD Skin is off for this server.
    • Local instances have the same HD Skins switch in Settings › Game.
    • The in-game Neko menu now opens with End by default, and you can pick any key in Settings › Game.
    • The Neko mark in the tab list no longer disappears after switching accounts inside the game.
  3. v2.3.1

    • Notifications look right again: in 2.3.0 they showed up as plain unstyled text at the top of the window.
  4. v2.3.0

    • A new look: the whole launcher is rebuilt on shadcn/ui, and its animations now use lightweight CSS instead of HeroUI and framer-motion. Pages open faster and animations are smoother.
    • Settings redesigned: the sidebar is grouped into You / Play / App, a search box jumps straight to any setting, and the cards are cleaner.
    • Login page redesigned: readable in both light and dark themes, the offline account is tucked into a collapsible section, and saved accounts show as cards.
    • HD skins: upload skins from 512 to 8192 px. Other Neko Launcher players see them in game, and a changed skin appears live without rejoining. The launcher's HD skin studio adds a full-body / 3D preview and the arm shape option.
    • In-game Neko menu (Right Shift): an HD skin page with drag-and-drop upload, an on/off switch, and "Over server skins", which shows your HD skin even on servers that set their own skin.
    • Neko-only servers: on servers that run the NekoVerify mod, the launcher can prove you're playing through Neko Launcher.
    • Fixes: the hand cursor shows on everything clickable, dialogs no longer stutter when opening, the in-game menu is no longer black with Sodium or on 26.x, and in-game skin upload no longer gets stuck on "Updating your skin".
  5. v2.2.41

    • New in About: Full dump / log. It collects the launcher and game logs, crash reports and system details so the developers can find a problem. Nothing is sent until you tick the agreement and press Send; everything you sent is listed on this PC, where you can read each file and withdraw it from the server.
    • Linux: the white window on PCs with an NVIDIA card next to another GPU is fixed without any extra commands. Turning off hardware acceleration now also fixes a white window on other graphics cards.
    • Lite mode turns on by itself only on slower PCs; fast PCs keep the full effects. You can still switch it on or off in Settings.
    • The launcher starts faster: pages and video wallpapers load only when you open them.
    • Add content: the remove buttons of mods no longer appear on top of the tabs and search box while scrolling.
  6. v2.2.40

    • Add content no longer lists the mods that come with a server's mod pack. Servers that hide their mod list keep it private again, and only the mods you added yourself can be removed there.
    • Links to a locked server (invite links, Discord, the website) open its page with the owner's message and the apply button, instead of saying the instance was not found.
    • After a modpack finishes installing, the launcher opens the new instance so you can play right away.
  7. v2.2.39

    • Report launcher issues from About. A report includes your Minecraft username, device specifications and launcher version.
    • Invite links and Open in Neko Launcher from the website now open the instance they point to. Before, the launcher could jump to an official instance instead.
    • Add instance has a new Invite link tab: paste a neko-launcher.com/j/ link or an invite code to join.
    • The launcher now opens on the home page. With no instances yet, the home page links to Official and Discovery instances.
    • Linux: fixed a white or frozen window on NVIDIA drivers. Settings has a new Lite mode for PCs that draw the window without the graphics card.
    • Linux: new Arch Linux package, with a pacman repository that keeps it up to date. Commands for every system are at neko-launcher.com/install.
    • Mods that come with a server's hidden mod pack show as Included in this instance when you browse mods, so they are not installed twice.
    • Forge and NeoForge mods that depend on another mod are no longer reported as duplicates of that mod.
  8. v2.2.37

    • Entry-fee payments are easier: a PromptPay card with the QR, amount and receiver, or a bank card with its logo, and you can send the slip by click, drag and drop, paste, or from your phone.
    • Slips are checked by their own QR code and each slip can only be used once.
    • Servers set up with Domain Connect keep working after the owner changes the server address or manifest, even if the old DNS record is still there.
  9. v2.2.36

    • Instances with hidden mods now start correctly with Sodium on NeoForge. Before, Sodium was left out and mods that need it, such as Reese's Sodium Options, stopped the game with "sodium is not installed".
  10. v2.2.35

    • A redesigned home: a greeting with your player head, large instance cards on a curved gallery wall that tilt toward the mouse, and a backdrop that follows the card you point at. Click a card and it grows to fill the window as the others step aside.
    • Mouse parallax on the instance page: the background, logo and interface drift gently with the mouse. Server owners set how much from the dashboard, a video background stays still, and you can turn it off in Settings → Launcher.
    • Modpack imports are sturdier and faster: a download that drops midway is retried, files you already have are skipped so a retried import picks up where it stopped, and more files download at once.
    • Home now shows only the instances you have installed, matching the sidebar, and Discord, website, email and Instagram links sit in its corner.
  11. v2.2.34

    • Local instances: create your own instance with any Minecraft version and Fabric, Quilt, Forge or NeoForge, or import a Modrinth .mrpack or CurseForge .zip. They live on your PC and work without the Neko servers.
    • Browse modpacks from Modrinth, CurseForge, FTB and ATLauncher right in the launcher, with search, sorting and pages, then install any version in one click.
    • Installs run in the background: close the window and follow the progress in the sidebar, open an installing instance to see its loading bar, and the game and loader are prepared so the first launch starts right away.
    • New instance settings page for local instances: name, description, icon and background, Minecraft and loader version, memory and JVM arguments, and your mods, resource packs, shaders and worlds, with each file labelled Modrinth, CurseForge or Local.
    • Developer settings list every MCP tool, and AI clients can now create, import, browse and manage local instances. Settings are bigger, the new windows follow light and dark mode, and the screenshot viewer no longer slides sideways.
  12. v2.2.33

    • Server logos: an instance can now show its own logo art over the home background, in the spot and size its owner picked on the Neko Launcher website, with a separate logo for each language.
    • Server owners can set up to two Discord status buttons (for example their Discord or website) that show while you play their instance.
  13. v2.2.32

    • The Neko Launcher icon before player names now comes from the launcher itself: no extra file in your mods folder, nothing new in mod lists, and it works on 26.x too.
    • New screenshots gallery: it opens nearly full screen with the newest shot first and shots grouped by day. The full view floats each shot over its own colours, with a filmstrip to jump between them, plus copy and open folder.
    • The instance menu keeps a single Screenshots entry.
  14. v2.2.31

    • Safer instance downloads: a file whose path would land outside the instance folder is skipped instead of written.
    • Developer MCP is now called neko-launcher-app, next to the new web workspace server nekolauncher-web. Set both up with npx @neko-launcher/cli setup; the access key no longer appears in any tool output.
  15. v2.2.30

    • Overview in the instance menu: status, total playtime and playtime per account, counted live while you play. Two accounts playing at once count once in the total.
    • Share your playtime as a 16:9 card on the instance wallpaper; choose which accounts, faces and names appear, then copy or save it.
    • Screenshots gallery in the instance menu: browse, flip with the arrow keys, copy an image or open the folder.
    • Game settings suggest a RAM amount for your PC, and one JVM preset (Default, Optimized, Performance) replaces the old optimized-flags switch. Your previous choice carries over.
    • The launcher checks free disk space before downloading.
    • Microsoft Store: the update window no longer shows the old version number, and the splash screen says when it is checking for updates.
    • Read-only instances no longer offer Add content.
    • Fixed: a white box before player names on Fabric instances without Fabric API.
    • Faster, sturdier local database with safe upgrades from older versions.
  16. v2.2.29

    • Add content to an instance: mods, resource packs and shaders from Modrinth and CurseForge in one browser (instance menu > Add content). Search both at once or one source, sort, page through results, pick the exact version, and what is already installed shows as Installed with an Update button.
    • Neko Launcher icon next to player names: everyone playing through Neko Launcher gets the launcher mark in the tab list and above their head on your screen, with no server support needed. Turn it off under Settings > Launcher > Privacy.
    • Discord: choose whether your status names the instance you are playing. Off, Discord shows only the Neko Launcher logo and "Playing Minecraft", with no join invite. Discord RPC and the icon now live together under Privacy.
    • Play the same instance with two accounts at once on one PC.
    • Home: hover the instance name to read its description instead of a text block over the artwork.
    • Faster Forge and NeoForge installs: libraries come over HTTP/2 and from a mirror when Forge's own server crawls.
    • Older games (1.12.2, 1.8.9) now show the Neko Launcher window title too.
    • Microsoft Store: runtimes, instances, settings and logs share one folder again; installed Java shows up on the Storage page and your data from before the update is kept.
    • Developer MCP now exposes 60 tools (settings, Java, Modrinth, updates, accounts, storage, catalogue) and Stop actually stops the game.
  17. v2.2.28

    • Apply to a server from inside the launcher: a locked server shows the owner's message at the bottom of its page and, when it is recruiting, Tap here to apply. Forms can have several pages and route you by your answers; Next stays off until the page is complete.
    • Entry fees: a server that charges one says so before you apply. After approval the same window shows a PromptPay QR with the amount filled in, a payment link or bank details, and you upload the slip right there. Servers with automatic verification tell you at once whether it went through.
    • Invite links (neko-launcher.com/j/…) open the server straight in the launcher. A server you cannot enter still opens its page so you can read about it, with Play disabled.
    • Servers that require a genuine Minecraft account now say so when you are on an offline account, instead of failing at launch.
    • Access is checked again when you switch accounts, with a short cache so a slow API does not lock you out.
    • Hidden mods (an owner setting): a server's mods can be kept out of the mods folder and loaded at launch on Fabric, Quilt, Forge and NeoForge, including Sinytra Connector packs. Your own mods still work; one that duplicates the server's is refused. Connector's per-machine mods/.connector cache is never downloaded or cleaned.
    • Game logs no longer print the launcher's internal arguments or file paths.
    • Fixed: Fabric on Minecraft 1.21.8 would not start (duplicate ASM classes); the loader's libraries now take precedence over vanilla's.
    • Fixed: the apply window could show "Microsoft session expired" or "Missing refresh token" for a signed-in account, and signing in there could log the website dashboard out.
    • Fixed: a DNS-hosted server (play.example.com) was not selected after search found it; a settings file in the API's {code, message, data} shape is accepted too.
    • Fixed: the apply window briefly showed the form before switching to "already applied"; it now waits for the real answer.
    • Desktop shortcuts that open one instance, file manager on read-only instances, sync markers hidden from the file browser, and a per-file download deadline so a stalled download fails with a message instead of hanging.
    • Updated Terms of Service and Privacy Policy (applications, entry fees, slip verification, billing). You will be asked to accept them once.
    • The launcher's helper components can update from the CDN between releases, and the instance schemas moved to v2 at cdn.neko-launcher.com/schema/.
  18. v2.2.27

    • Sign in with Microsoft now opens your browser with an account picker and finishes on its own once Microsoft sends you back. No code to copy. The device-code method is still there as a small link under the button.
    • The page you land on in the browser after signing in matches the launcher's look and closes itself.
    • Sign-in now goes through Neko Launcher's own Microsoft app registration under Furimoe Co., Ltd. Accounts you already added keep working without signing in again.
    • Official Discord: join from Settings → About, or from neko-launcher.com.
    • Fixed (Microsoft Store): the launcher did not reopen by itself after an update was installed.
  19. v2.2.26

    • Settings has a new sidebar: open a tab to see its sections and jump straight to any of them. Pick a settings window size (90–125%) under Appearance.
    • Game Settings redesigned: the essentials come first, memory has presets and a recommendation for this PC (or type a value), and every change saves on its own.
    • Instances now also lists the Minecraft versions, mod loaders and Java runtimes you have downloaded, which instances use them, and lets you delete what you no longer need.
    • Home sidebar folders: drag one instance onto another to make a folder, drag instances in or out, click to open, right-click to rename, recolour or delete.
    • Game Logs rebuilt: output is there from the moment the game starts even if you open the window later, with real log levels, filters, live status, copy and save.
    • Fixed: game output was never recorded unless "Show game logs" was on.
    • Fixed: changing a setting on one page could reset settings from another page.
    • Java Installations is simpler: one row per runtime with the actions as icons.
    • New Developer mode (Settings → Launcher): paths and tools, plus an MCP server so AI agents such as Claude Code, Cursor or Codex can work with the launcher via npx @neko-launcher/cli.
  20. v2.2.25

    • Microsoft Store builds now show download progress while an update installs, instead of a silent wait after the Store prompt.
    • Store updates download without the prompt when your Store settings allow automatic updates.
    • Embedded videos open as just the video: no title bar or Open in Browser button.
  21. v2.2.24

    • Settings redesigned and regrouped: Account, Instances, Appearance, Launcher, Game, Java, About.
    • New Account page: switch, add, remove and sign out from settings.
    • New Instances page: disk usage per instance, drag to reorder, bulk verify/delete, and a built-in file browser with sizes.
    • New Discovery grid with poster cards, an "Added" state and the official badge.
    • New login screen and dialogs: clearer Microsoft sign-in, tap-to-copy device code, and cracked (offline) accounts labelled honestly — they can only join servers that allow offline mode.
    • New About page with separate Launcher folder and Logs folder buttons.
    • About no longer freezes or hammers the disk.
    • Java install shows the download percent.
    • Embedded videos work in release builds.
    • Confirm dialogs no longer get stuck; CDN icons and wallpapers load again.
    • Every supported language (EN/TH/JP/RU) is fully translated, including text that was English-only.
  22. v2.2.23

    • Microsoft Store builds now check the Store for a new version on every launch and install it right away, so you no longer have to update by hand from the Store.
  23. v2.2.22

    • Microsoft Store installs: Java and game files downloaded by the launcher are now stored where the game process can actually read them. This fixes NeoForge failing to install (installertools ConsoleTool not found) and Minecraft 26.2 refusing to start with a JVM option error.
    • The game now runs inside its instance folder, so mod config, logs and caches stay per instance instead of piling up in the launcher root.
    • Java runtimes installed from Settings are stored under the game directory (runtime folder), and the Java list now finds runtimes the launcher provisioned.
    • About page: separate buttons to open the launcher folder and the logs folder.
    • Downloaded Java runtimes are checksum-verified and the launcher log records which Java actually ran.
  24. v2.2.21

    • Microsoft Store builds now update automatically again. The Store submission was rolling out to 0% of users, so no one received updates in the background and the app had to be updated by hand from the Store.
  25. v2.2.20

    • Reduced launcher stuttering by dropping backdrop blur when hardware acceleration is off. The effect now turns off instantly when the setting is toggled, with no restart required.
    • Windows downloads on the website now point to the Microsoft Store, where the app is signed and updates install automatically.
  26. v2.2.19

    • Fixed UI stuttering during downloads. Progress events are now throttled and the download speed label re-renders on its own instead of the whole launch panel.
    • Added a Hardware Acceleration toggle in General settings. Turn it off if you see visual glitches or frame drops; the launcher must be restarted for it to apply.
    • Fixed the Windows taskbar and Start menu icon appearing as a full-bleed block by shipping properly inset icon assets.
  27. v2.2.18

    • Released version 2.2.18 for Windows, Linux, and macOS using GitHub-hosted runners.

    • Adaptive 720p/1080p HLS backgrounds now include AAC stereo audio, loop continuously, and provide compact playback and saved sound controls.
    • Added a dedicated Instance settings category plus a page-specific Discovery background selector; Discovery defaults to video while instance pages default to wallpaper.
    • Discovery cards now open instances with one click and keep a fixed banner height so every card stays aligned.
  35. v2.2.10

    • Discord Rich Presence now shows the selected instance while browsing, prioritizes the instance actually running, and adds dynamic artwork, game-session timing, deep-link game invites, and automatic launcher fallback.

    • Added adaptive HLS video backgrounds with automatic 720p/1080p quality, wallpaper fallback, and compact playback controls.
